LE-HADP is focused on three key areas: healthcare, education and agriculture. In addition to our ongoing programs, LE-HADP is also actively involved in a range of projects in Liberia. For example, we recently installed a hand pump at Gokai public school, providing clean water access to the students and staff in Kpatawee clan, Suakoko District, Bong County.

With our ongoing programs and projects, LE-HADP is also in the process of planning several new initiatives, which will include the renovation of Gokai Public School and collaborating with partners to bring in medical supplies to the town and other health centres. Education:

We Help Building Brighter Futures Through Education Advocacy

Liberia’s educational system was severely impacted by the civil war and Ebola epidemic, leading to widespread school closures, a lack of qualified teachers, and low enrolment rates.

Despite recent improvements, many Liberian children still do not have access to quality education, especially in rural areas, and there is a high dropout rate. According to a report by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the dropout rate in Liberia’s primary education system was 32% in 2015, with girls and children living in rural areas more likely to drop out than boys and urban children.

The government of Liberia, with support from UNICEF, launched a program called “Getting Out-of-School Children into School” in 2017, which aims to identify and enrol children who are not attending school.

Non-governmental organizations like LE-HADP is also working to support education initiatives, such as providing school supplies, constructing new schools, and training teachers, among others.

LE-HADP’s education initiatives aim to support the rebuilding of the education system, promote literacy, and provide vocational training and skills development opportunities, particularly for marginalized groups such as girls and young women.

Agriculture

Agriculture is a crucial part of Liberia’s economy, with over 70% of the population engaged in small-scale farming and subsistence agriculture.

According to a report by the World Bank in 2015, approximately 75% of Liberia’s population is engaged in agriculture.

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has also reported that more than 70% of Liberians are employed in small-scale agriculture.

However, the sector has been affected by low productivity, poor access to markets, and lack of access to modern farming techniques and inputs.

As part of LE-HADP goals, we aim to support farmers with training in sustainable agriculture practices, access to improved seeds and tools, and market linkages to ensure that farmers can earn a living from their farms.

Liberia is particularly vulnerable to climate change, with rising temperatures and more extreme weather events impacting agricultural production.

LE-HADP also aimed to promote climate-smart agriculture practices, such as agroforestry and water harvesting, to help farmers adapt to changing conditions.

In addition to improving agricultural productivity, LE-HADP is in support of working to improve food security by promoting sustainable farming practices that preserve soil health and conserve biodiversity

It is part of LE-HADP goals to promote the adoption of cash crops such as rubber, cocoa, and oil palm, which can help farmers diversify their incomes and access higher value markets.

The organization also aimed to work with women farmers to improve their access to land and resources, as women make up a significant portion of Liberia’s agricultural workforce.

In addition, LE-HADP want to promote the use of mobile technology to help farmers access market information, weather forecasts, and other important information to help them make better farming decisions.
